Wood-Fired Kiln Experience

We were excited to welcome Rhinelander High School Ceramics 4 seniors to campus for a hands-on wood-firing experience! This was the first partnership between Nicolet College instructor Nate Wilson and RHS art teacher Josh Calhoun.
Students visited campus twice—first to glaze their pottery, and then again for an all-day wood firing at our on-site kiln. They split wood, stoked the fire, cleared ash, and helped bring the kiln up to nearly 2,400°F. 🌡️
The result? One-of-a-kind pieces shaped by fire and teamwork. 💪🔥
Huge thanks to instructors Nate and Josh for the time and guidance that made this unforgettable day possible!
